Introduction
Macaé campus of the Federal Fluminense Institute (formerly CEFET Campos) is located by Lagoa de Imboassica, a distinguished location due to its proximity to companies and multinationals connected with the petroleum sector. Because of its reference in education, the institution serves the local community and neighboring towns.
In 1987, Macaé City Hall donated the fifty-one-thousand-square-meter land and, after an agreement signed between MEC / SETEC and Petrobras, the construction of the building began with full financial responsibility of the state-owned company (Petrobras). On July 29, 1993, the building was inaugurated and school activities began in the same year, on August 30.
Initially, it hosted two High-School-Integrated Vocational Training Courses, Electronics and Electromechanics, with a total of two hundred and seventy students. Today it holds not only High-School-Integrated Vocational Training Courses, but also Technical Courses, Youth and Adult Education Program - PROEJA, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
The technical courses offered are those of Electronics, Electromechanics, Industrial Automation, Information Technology, Labor Safety and Environment. The Undergraduate courses are: Control Engineering and Industrial Automation. Through the Youth and Adult Education Program – PROEJA – the campus offers the technical course in Eletrotechnology and is directed to those who have graduated from Elementary School.
For practicums, students are headed to laboratories such as Industrial Automation, Electrical Machines, Industrial Pneumatics, Instrumentation, Process Control, Metrology, Adjustment and Welding as well as to the Physics, Information Technology, Chemistry and Biology laboratories.
As a Stricto Sensu postgraduate course, the institution offers the Professional Master Degree in Environmental Engineering, with the lines of research in the areas of Participatory Environmental Management and Promotion of Regional Sustainability. It is intended for professionals, preferably already in the labor market, graduates in Engineering, Technology Courses, Natural Sciences and related areas.
The Institution also offers extension courses, through agreements and partnerships.
