Environmental Assessment, Management and Conservation

The projects developed in this line of research aim to propose strategies for conflict mediation and the solution of environmental problems, through the elaboration of environmental assessments involving environmental diagnostics and / or prognoses, impact studies and the development of methodologies for the implementation of environmental control. In this line are inserted the following thematic areas of action / interest of the researchers of the PPEA:

Environmental Assessment and Geotechnology

In this thematic area researches supported in the geotechnologies are carried out as tools able to make feasible the following items: diagnosis, potential and restrictions of land use; delimitation of conservation units and environmental preservation; inventories of natural resources; prognosis or environmental simulations; treatment of orbital images aimed at the production and updating of environmental data; mathematical modeling applied to water bodies, the transport of sediments and the dispersion of pollutants. Such researches are associated with the production of basic information on environmental planning and management, at the regional, municipal and local levels, and also allow the simulation of future scenarios.

Water Resources Management and Planning

In this thematic area, we seek to produce and disseminate knowledge and technologies to be considered for the rational and optimized use of water, and for the environmental recovery of river basins, thus enabling the dissemination of technical and scientific concepts that are not fully disseminated among the different professionals who work in the management of these resources. It also seeks to strengthen the management tools associated with integrated and decentralized water resources management systems, focused on participatory ecosystem-based management methodologies applied to water and forest conservation and mitigation of negative environmental impacts associated with development.
