Student Body
Information about doctoral students.
The objective is to provide broad training to the student, combining theory and practice in the lines of research of the program, in order to increase the effectiveness of their performance in the area of environment with emphasis on water resources, with the understanding of the dimensions regarding the quality and quantity of water; legal, social, institutional and environmental aspects; regulation water availability, etc.
Students are expected to develop skills that will enhance their professional competences and better qualify them to deal with problems associated with issues related to the environment and water resources, using tools in line with the state of the art, as well as being able to drive changes in technological and socio-economic-political-cultural development based on scientific knowledge.
Having as reference the technological maturity levels "Technology Readiness Level" defined by ISO, it is expected that the course prepares the students to promote the necessary actions in design from the first level of observation, going through the concept formulation, establishing the critical function (analytical, experimental and/or proof of concept), performing the functional validation of the components in laboratory and relevant environment, and demonstrating the critical functions of the prototype in the same environment. Advanced levels of prototype demonstration (qualification, finalisation and operationalisation) may be achieved after the training period or, in some cases, still during the course.
The Professional Doctorate modality shall provide theoretical, conceptual and methodological subsidies to professionals, improving their performance, from a more critical, reflexive and creative performance in their professional practice environments, making them capable of creating/adapting and applying technologies.
To provide a strategy for the production of knowledge about the environment and water resources based on the problematisation of the practices involved in the training of professionals, especially at state and municipal level. It is expected that the profile of those enrolled in the proposed programme will be professionals working in the area of the environment and hydric resources who have a Master's degree. As well as professionals who work in industrial and agricultural enterprises, environmental agencies at Municipal, State and Federal levels, water and sewage utilities, public and private managers, professionals directly related to the use and disposal of the environment and water resources in the region. It is also expected that candidates are graduates of the professional master's degrees of IFFluminense (PPEA, SAEG etc..) or programs in related areas of institutions in the region, state, other states of the federation or abroad.
The graduate profile is characterized as a professional with broad technological training quality to develop and apply models and / or technologies to propose solutions that seek to remedy or mitigate environmental problems arising from the use of water resources, supporting the management process in environmental agencies, watershed committees and conservation units, or in technological performance in advisory or consulting in public and / or private organizations.
Graduates of the program will be able to propose strategies for monitoring surface water and groundwater resources in hydrographic regions and especially in ecosystems of conservation units in response to demands of basin plans or management plans of the UCs. To this end, graduates will be able to use modeling tools and develop prototypes suitable for each situation, and from there, make diagnoses of water resources in watersheds and protected areas. They will have the ability to direct the most appropriate, rational and sustainable management practices in these ecosystems, with a view to the maintenance, improvement and/or remediation of the environment.
Graduates will have a systemic and holistic vision, given that water is an integrating element with the different natural resources.
