O presente trabalho trata-se da avaliação dos impactos ambientais do complexo industrial portuário do Açu, com ênfase no impacto oriundo do processo de adensamento urbano ocasionado pelo poder de centralidade inato de grandes empreendimentos como este. Neste contexto foi realizada uma pesquisa exploratória a respeitos das características do município e do empreendimento, bem como dos impactos ambientais relativos à implantação e operação portuária. Também foram estudadas questões relativas à escolha da sua localização, no intuito esclarecer o motivo pelo qual o município de São João da Barra foi escolhido como sede de um empreendimento desta ordem. De forma mais específica o presente estudo mensura e avalia os impactos ocasionados pelo processo de adensamento populacional da AID (Área de Influencia Direta) do empreendimento. Neste ínterim é utilizada a metodologia denominada Ecological Footprint (Pegada Ecológica), como ferramenta para avaliar o impacto do processo de crescimento da população e suas implicações na capacidade de suporte ambiental da área em estudo. Para tal foi realizada uma pesquisa de campo por meio de entrevistas com o uso de questionários estruturados distribuídos aleatoriamente pela população da AID, onde primeiramente foram levantadas informações sobre os padrões de consumo dos recursos naturais, de produção de resíduos e ocupação do solo, com os quais foi definido a Pegada Ecológica da AID, posteriormente com base em dados do EIA-RIMA do empreendimento foi mensurada a capacidade do meio natural de produzir os insumos necessários a manutenção das atividades humanas, e sua capacidade de depurar os resíduos (biocapacidade), posteriormente a partir da diferença entre a biocapacidade a Pegada Ecológica foi definido o Balanço Ecológico da área. Assim com base nestes dados da situação atual da AID, foram construídos cenários futuros, com o intuito de avaliar a sustentabilidade ambiental da área frente ao processo de crescimento populacional. Assim concluímos que a área em estudo encontra-se hoje em uma situação de sustentabilidade ecológica, mais que caso as previsões de crescimento populacional se concretizem, sem que sejam implementadas ações proativas de planejamento ambiental e urbanização, a área logo se tornará insustentável.

The present work is an evaluation of the environmental impacts of the port industrial complex of Açu, with emphasis in the impact originating from of the process of growth of the population caused by the power of innate attraction center of great enterprises as this. In this context an exploratory research was accomplished to respects of the characteristics of the municipal district and of the enterprise, as well as of the relative environmental impacts to the installation and port operation. They also went you study relative subjects to the choice of its location, with the objective of illuminating the reason for which the municipal district of São João of Barra was chosen as headquarters of an enterprise of this order. In a more specific way the present study measures and it evaluates the impacts caused by the growth of the population of AID (Area of it Influences Direct) of the enterprise. In this interim the methodology denominated ecological footprint is used, as tool to evaluate the impact of the process of growth of the population and its implications in the capacity of environmental support of the area in study. For such a field research was accomplished by means of interviews with the use of distributed structured questionnaires in an aleatory way for the population of AID, where firstly they were lifted up information on the patterns of consumption of the natural resources, of production of residues and occupation of the soil, with which it was defined the Ecological Footprint of AID, later on with base in data of the EIA-RHYME of the enterprise the capacity of the natural way was measured of producing the necessary input the maintenance of the human activities, and its capacity of debugging the residues (bio-capacity), later on starting from the difference among the bio-capacity the Ecological Footprint was defined the Ecological Swinging of the area. Like this with base in these data of the current situation of AID, future sceneries were built, with oobjetivo of evaluating the environmental sustentabilidade of the area front to the process of growth of the population. We concluded like this it that the area in study meets today in a situation of ecological sustentabilidade, more than I marry the forecasts of growth of the population they are summed up, without for-active actions of environmental planning and urbanization are implemented, the area soon will become unsustainable.
